I started doing video editing as a lark about a year ago, and I found I really enjoy it. Here are some samples of my work:
CONvergence 2008 "Welcome Back" Video
Client: CONvergence
Assignment: The convention normally announces each Guest of Honor verbally during the opening ceremony, one guest at a time. During most years, there are only 6-7 Guests to announce, but this year, there were 21 guests to announce. To save time and keep the opening ceremony moving, an Adult Swim-style video was proposed. Using a video/text format, the audience was able to applaud and make noise without delaying the performance.
CONvergence 2008 "Happy Birthday" Video
Client: CONvergence
Assignment: For the 10th anniversary of the convention, several volunteers took cameras to other conventions during the prior year to gather footage of famous people saying "happy birthday". I corrected sound levels and edited down over an hour of footage into this 5-minute video.
CONvergence 2008 "Cell Phone PSA" Video
Client: CONvergence
Assignment: Come up with a quick, memorable way to tell the audience to shut off their cell phones. This video took 30 minutes to complete, from concept to burning the final edit to DVD.
Car Chase Montage Client: My own amusement
Assignment: I wanted to advertise a car crash themed movie party that I was hosting, so I made a trailer. I made this before I bought Final Cut Pro, so creating this video was far more difficult than it should have been.
